German sixties music • • • • • (bewertet mit 5 von 5 Punkten) Alle meine Rezensionen ansehen (TOP 500 REZENSENT) (REAL NAME) Rezension bezieht sich auf: Das Beste..die Original Hits 63-72 (Audio CD) Manuela's music, as presented here, is typical of the sixties - mostly upbeat, simple pop music. Born Doris Inge Wegener in 1943, she made number one in Germany with Schuld war nur der Bossa Nova (Blame it on the Bossa Nova) in 1963. Six other German top ten hits are included here, these being Ich geh noch zur Schule (a cover of a traditional song), Kusse unterm Regenbogen, Schwimmen lernt mam in See, Monsieur Dupont (which, when translated into English, became a British top ten hit for Sandie Shaw), Hey Boy lab doch den Whisky (Don't try to fight it baby and Es ist zum Weinen. Eight other songs here made the German top twenty including Wenn es Nacht wird en Harlem (When a man loves a woman - a British and American hit for Percy Sledge), Guantaname - a traditional song that became a British and American hit for the Sandpipers) and Lord Leicester aus Manchester (a German song about an Englishman). The remaining nine hits, all but one of which made the German top thirty, include Alles und noch viel mehr (All kinds of everything - Dana's 1970 Eurovision contest winner). This is a wonderful compilation, complete with a booklet giving career details and chart placings. A second volume is available but no career details or chart placings are included in it - I think that the important hits are mostly to be found here although the second volume is of an equally high quality.
